Being Transplanted

I believe I have picked up my reading habits (and a lot else) from my Dad who had cupboards full of books and we had full access to these books right from my 5th standard. His interest was in literature, philosophy and religious writings and that was the kind of books I inherited. In his collection there were also about 100 Readers Digest which he had religiously been keeping from his subscription years before I was even born.

I had read a statement in Readers Digest and this was when I was in the 8th or 10th class and that has stuck in my mind. I do not remember the exact statement but it was someting like this:

"Some of the best flowers have be transplanted before they bloom"

And this statement came to my mind again today as I read a recent post on Lynn's blog 'About a boy' where she talks of how the boy she knew years ago has now become a man!! I think it was the 'transplant' that happened when about 4 years ago when that boy was taken from his area of work and put into a new role. He transformed.

I also remember a very coy girl in my team who left us for some time and got 'transplanted' to another environment. When she came back to us she was a transformed person.

A lot of time status-quo breeds medicority and there is a need to do a 'transplant' to provide a different environment and inputs and re-engineer the mind to deliver excellence.

So, this brings me to think if doing a transplant and breaking the status-quo is the way for me to deal with certain issues in office? Will need to think about this.

Lastly, have I myself not been transplanted a few months back into a totally different world? From Mumbai to Gurgaon; from R&D to Business Head; from back-office to the front line; from a small group to a huge team; from proximity of my mentors into distance..etc, etc. Now, that I realize this thought I will redirect my energies to ensure that I also undergo the transformation into bloom and not doom.
